The Future of Learning and Higher Education

NextEducation Team der Dualen Hochschule Baden-Würrtemberg
Higher education institution (university, public): Publicly funded universities offering a broad range of academic programs.
The publication adopts a strongly educational science–oriented and systems-theoretical perspective, as it analyzes the transformation of higher education within the broader context of societal change. It is research-based, drawing on empirical studies (including Delphi studies and interviews) as well as a solid theoretical foundation. At the same time, it takes a strategic higher education perspective by addressing the future role of universities in a globalized and digitalized world. Furthermore, it demonstrates a normative and design-oriented approach, as it not only describes developments but also actively proposes models and concepts for the advancement of higher education and competence structures.
Future skills are the ability to act successful on a complex problem in a future unknown
context of action’. It refers to an individuals’ disposition to act in a self-organized way, visible to the outside
as performance.
