Future skills for a life shaped by artificial intelligence

NextEducation Team der Dualen Hochschule Baden-Würrtemberg
Higher education institution (university, public): Publicly funded universities offering a broad range of academic programs;
The study adopts a clearly empirical-analytical orientation toward the living and working conditions in Germany, with a particular focus on Baden-Württemberg. It is strongly labor market– and technology-oriented, as it examines which competences are required in the context of artificial intelligence. At the same time, it follows a subject-oriented approach by placing individuals’ perspectives on their own competences and experiences at the center of the analysis. The study is highly research-based, combining a mixed-methods design that integrates qualitative preliminary studies with a large-scale quantitative survey. Through its integration into initiatives such as the KI-Campus and its funding by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), it also acquires a strategic dimension in terms of education policy.
Future skills are the ability to act successful on a complex problem in a future unknown
context of action’. It refers to an individuals’ disposition to act in a self-organized way, visible to the outside
as performance.
